Hi All I want to fit door handles to the Avante that are similar to the originals, but I don’t think Ill have much chance of finding a Princess or Early BL car in the scrappy. Rimmer brothers list new ones for the TR7 but at £100 each I think I will pass. So can anyone suggest any cars that I might find being broken that have the sort of handles I am after. The only one I can find so far is the series 1 Land Rover Discovery. Are there any more?

Hi Dirk. It would be useful if you could upload a photo of a handle you are suggesting. One of us might be able to find something very similar by looking online.

The SS uses Ford Fiesta MkII ones if that's any help.

Hi Dirk - they aren't the same as the TR7 latch (the internal latch is a much simpler design), but would a pair of these work instead? https://www.europaspares.com/product/61 ... FFPHL.htmlYou could modify the tongue latch on the back for pushrod operation if that is what you need. The exterior features seem to be visually identical - and the price is much more reasonable than Rimmers! Lauren

I've just busted it online and can't find a thing. I suggest routing/asking around an autojumble or find out what car they are from and then do some research. I wish you the best of luck!

G I know what they came from a Princes or early BL cars there were lots of cars in the late 70's early 80's that used this style of handle, the question was more is there somthing I'm likely to find in a scrap yard now that is similar. Dirk

I think they were fitted to the Reliant Scimitar Series 6. These get broken up on ebay now and again and there are a few parts suppliers that look after them. I've always found Queensberry Road Garage in Kettering quite helpful. 01536 518 319

Dirk These were popular here in Hot Rods. Then some of them went for the shaved look, and started using door poppers. So maybe find out when and where a swap meet is being held, and go trawling for parts.

Dirk wrote: Im not a fan of chrome Not a fan of chrome!!!??? Its OK, I know what you mean - but those standard BL paddle door handles were only ever available in a brushed silver or chrome finish. I rather like them. Morris Marina had them too, find out where Top Gear send their squashed cars! Happy hunting! Lauren

Lauren I think it is two things having to clean the family cars as a kid with the chrome cleaner and my Spitfire rear bumper that I could not clean because the steel had rusted that bad that it was just a thin bit of chrome hanging onto the body. Luckily some silly woman drove into the back of the Spitfire and only gave it a tap but obviously the bumper just all colapsed, I managed to do a deal with her husband and said I would do the work if they gave me the money for a new bumper and they did, so then I went and got a second hand one what a bonus Anyway back to the topic I was expecting you to have given me a list of mid late 90's cars that used this type of handle as you have failed it looks like Ill be going with the Disco ones Dirk

Well, I did give you a list of mid-70s cars that used them, surely that counts for something? Disco ones are probably old BL stock with the paddles anodised black, for that "modern" look

There is a specialist supplier of Morris Marina spares (comes close to the top if you Google) - unfortunately their prices for handles are 'POA' in the listings.... Might be worth trying the Marina Owners club too - they're not as good as the Morris 1000 owners but can still be pretty helpful - especially as you're not threatening to cut up or destry one of their beloved motors......
