Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone would be entering the London - Brighton Kit Car Run on Sunday 8th June? It has a new start venue this year which is the Mercedes Benz Museum in Brooklands, Weybridge (not really London is it).

Here is the link http://www.classiccarrun.com Application forms are on here

The only downside is it costs 77 to enter but you do get a nice brass plate for the car and a certificate at the end. It would be nice to see a couple of Nova's there. I may be entering although I will be in the Westfield.

Any interest?

Colin

Spoke to Harry about this at detling, he said he it was a good experience.

Sarah and I have ruled it out for this year, but may do brighton Breeze in october with the VW crew instead,

Too many shows between now and Newark, and work to be done !!

All in all, a good day out, but expensive at 75 quid last year. 77 you say? This year :(

It does look like a lot of fun, especially if the weather is good. Will you be there this year DJ?

When does the entry list close? For such an event (multi-site, route books etc.) it must be soon. I can't make up my mind whether I want to do it or not. I don't have any clashing events that weekend... :D

Hi Lauren,

Ive just spoken with the organisers and ideally they require the entry form a week before the 8th June at the latest however they have had people turn up on the day but dont advise this.

The lady said if there are 5 entries from a club or group you only pay for 4 and 1 is free, that makes it 61.60 each so 5 would be good.

Have a look at the web site and see what you think, she said last year there were about 250 cars of which half were kit cars, sounds like a good turn out.

Hiya Colin,
After 13 years continually on the road, I've fast run out of brownie points. Looks like a new kitchen might just earn me some more, so will have to apply the 77 quid to that project. Sooner it's done, sooner I'll be back out there :)

Thanks Colin - although I doubt we could get 5 Novas to participate - that's every functional car in the South of England!

I'll give it some more thought :D

Bah! We had 14 Eureka's turn up to last years AGM, and I had to drive more than 1000klms to get there.

This year, no where near as far to go, and (hopefully) access to a hill climb circuit for a day! Woot!

Right, I'm up for this, and my mother fancies herself as navigator, so I'll be following any suspicious-looking kit cars in the hope that they know where they are going!

All I can do now is hope that the weather holds up and that I can find somewhere to attach the obligatory rally plate (I didn't design the car with any suitable attachment points :D)

Driving a Nova in Brighton. Wish me luck!

Sounds good Lauren.

I will be there in the Westy so I hope the weather is good as I dont have a hood

There are 2 times to set off, which will you be going for? I think I may do the 10am one as it is a Sunday afterall.

Hi Colin - ditto for me - 10 am. The weather better be good as there is no chance of a refund it seems :(

Still, the event is in association with C&SC, so I might get the Green Machine into the July issue (still waiting to see if I appear in the Chatham coverage), and the atmosphere is supposed to be "electric".

I'll see you at the start - or on the way up to Brookie!

I've done it, my Nova came from Brighton in the first place! (but good luck anyway, Lauren!)

Well guys I entered the London to Brighton run yesterday in my Westfield along with Lauren in her Nova, what a great day out.

We set off from the Mercedez Benz Museum in Weybridge at about 10am, followed a pre planned route through many country lanes to the Ambering Working Museum before the final stint down to sunny Brighton. The weather was wonderful (well for me anyway being in an open top, not sure about in a Nova though) and the Brighton finish was very well laid out. In all there must have been abot 150 cars, about 50% were kit cars and the others were classic cars.

I will sort out my photos in the next day or so and post some on here.

Cheers Colin - I've got a few snaps as well, but they won't be developed for a while!

My mother insists that the Nova didn't get that hot inside, but it was a bit too warm for my liking - some of the route wasn't best suited to the Green Machine, so there was some increased driver effort required!

We both had a great time, and my mother proved to be a very capable navigator so we didn't get lost. Madeira Drive was excellent - wall-to-wall sunshine and a great selection of cars. Even the drive home was good - just following the setting sun through the industrial wasteland that is Shoreham-by-Sea until we hit the A27.

Most asked question - "Is this the car that was used in Clockwork Orange?" (it isn't - the Adams Probe 16 is what they were thinking of), plus the usual tosh from self-proclaimed "experts" trying to look clever in from of their better halves "it doesn't say on the back, but its a Lotus Elan..."

Brilliant day out, helped enormously by the fine weather (rain would have made it a miserable experience) - thoroughly recommended if you enjoy doing what the Nova was designed for - posing on the seafront :D

Thanks Colin, excellent pictures (thanks Alex for sorting them out!)

I've ordered a set of "official" start and finish pictures too. It was a great day out, although the route was challenging!

I later found out that the block-paving speed bumps coming off Epsom Downs (only a few miles from the start) de-sumped a Cobra replica and it had to go home on a trailer :(

We hit the bumps pretty hard, they've taken most of the paint off the central ridge of the undertray and buckled the aluminium support brackets, but it could have been sooooo much worse!

Hi Lauren,

Im not sure why my pics didnt come up above...

Have you heard from the organizers as I havent heard anything yet? I havent got my certificate oor had any contact from them?

I was chatting with Jim yesterday at Newark and he said he hopes to take Nena next year :groupwave:

I got the proofs for the official photographs last week.

The feedback questionnaire is in the back of the route book, I haven't filled it in yet...

It was a challenging route for a Nova, with some very narrow country lanes to negotiate, and the full race suspension in the Green Machine didn't help, but we had such a good time that (weather permitting) we will almost certainly want to do the event next year.

Perhaps you can come in YOUR Nova, Colin :D

I will have to get on to the organizers as I havent received anything yet.

Well I guess next year I could put the Nova on a trailer and sit in it while someone else tows it to Brighton :D

Maybe a couple of years after that once I'm ready for the rebuild.

Nice on Lauren.

I spoke with the organisers the other week and they had lost my details. All sorted now so will order some of the official photo's.

I would definately do it again next year, well if the weather is as good anyway.

lol, actually it was the marshall that parked us that way - he took one look at the car and said "park it parallel to the kerb". I don't know whether he said it because he thought I would make a complete hash of reversing in or just because the rear visibility is so poor :D After a 100 mile drive I wasn't complaining though!

In fairness there were two other cars parked alongside to start with, and it did afford some better photo opportunities :D

Glad to hear you've sorted out your event pictures Colin! (the start picture in particular I am very pleased with - possible frame job!)
