One for you Alex as you like gadgets and stuff. (again taken from another forum so the link might not work properly but here goes anyway).

Thought I'd spread the news on this one. I treated myself to an Nokia N96 last week and have installed some software from http://www.racechrono.com which can calculate the 60ft, 1/8 mile, 1/4mile 0 to 100kph, 80 to 120kph and can also just log speed and location.

(Note I haven't treated myself to this, but might when I get something that is worthwhile on the road.)
Apparently it will also download race tracks so if you do track days you can log sector times and lap times etc.

Interesting - I guess the calculations are based on accurate GPS data rather than accelerometers?

Isn't it amazing what uses you can come up with for GPS these days?

(let's just hope those nice chaps in the US military keep supplying the signals to us :D)

Looks like fun! I think my old Garmin Forunner can do similar stuff, despite being designed for people on foot.......but you don't get the pretty colour displays with that.......

Damn tht's clever :clapping:

For those interested in the 'Old School' approach to data aquisition, my son now works for this company http://www.stackltd.com/prod1.html that produce a whole load of guages and data logging products.
