Hi all have eye spyed this engine on ebay but i have my reservations it has a lack of power and compression. now to me that would mainly mean the rings but can anyone think of anything else that could cause me seriouse problems? also im assuming that it should just bolt on to my 4 speed vw box no worries but hey what do i know! heres a hint (NOTHING) It will be a real winter project for me to attack and learn on. can anyone seen any problems ie fitting etc or has anyone out there used one of these engines.

here is the link........ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120485473582&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

You won't know until you tear into it, Matt. That's the big problem with used engines - expect the worst and hope for the best. Rings would be the easy thing... if the cylinders are scored, it'll take a honing or replacement. Since they mentioned it's only on one side, it sounds like one side ran lean and cooked the cylinders. Might be more issues than it's worth, unless you plan on rebuilding the entire engine.

Mat,

To get it on the road quickly, buy a crate motor, bolt it on & get it road bound. Then when it's running and on the road start to play with the engine. If you are staying VW air cooled then it is only 4 bolts to get the motor out.

I tried several different motors before deciding on the V6 and that burnt up the best part of 14 years!!!!!!!!!
