I have the normal oil filler neck.....

have been told by the old man its not exactly leaking but is slowly oozing around the seam. So looked on machine7 for replacement and could only find these type necks.....

Why is there no ventilation outlet on it? Are they better/worse? and thus am I better looking for a original style one (sure gsf will prob do one but was wondering difference)?

Cheers Ben

If you're venting the crankcase and need an oil return, it's easy enough to drill and thread a simple fitting on one, Ben. My old car never had a top return, just the bottom breather tube. I've not heard of one of these oozing, either - they're a press fit into the case. You might be able to simply pull the old one, clean up the bottom of the tube and the seal and re-install.

Mine is not the best seal but does not ooze any, it will drip from the tube occasionly as it is intended.
Do you have a bit too much crankcase pressure, maybe the start of a problem. :crossfinger:

If one looks inside the beast you will see a slotted nut, this is what holds the top bit to the tube where there is an O ring.
Therre are lots of different types from std, std chrome, alloy and straight alloy. They all fit on the alloy tube from the alternator stand, even mine.
Chrome std (still got it somewhere)

Mine was perforated with rust along the lower (hidden) side. Seems an odd part to rust what with all the oil, but I guess it's pretty thin steel. Responded well to welding once I'd cleaned it up enough inside to see the nut and could get it off! If it is the seam weeping rather than a rust pinhole, it would probably respond well to being removed and gently tapped round with a hammer against a solid object. (Basically re-crimping the joint.)

Cool cheers for everyones help. I'll have a look at "re-crimping" before ripping it all off.

Alternatively anyone know where to get one of these with a mini air filter?

Ther's no need to "rip" anything off, just remove the filler cap and you will see the ring nut with two slots, insert a piece of steel the width of the nut and unscrew from the alloy neck.

Yeah, just look inside the oil filler cap. use a screwdriver and either tighten it or take it out. Originally there is a paper gasket betweenthe two pieces. maybe this gasket is missing. Also do you have to smog your vehicle? If so you may want to stick with the original styled filler cap, because the chrome ones dont have the downdraft pcv tube. This tube/rubber boot and air filter with crankcase line are basically the only smog component that is necessary when smoging or seeing the referee.
