Since you said you've never seen a real one before to compare to the Manta, here's the real deal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem= (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180524084899&viewitem=)

There was a Manta up for auction in Arizona, USA a little while ago. Can't find the auction now, but I did snag the link for the photo.

Hmmmm, i think there is a BIG difference, even the look of the body work.
I dont think there is a single replica that can do any original car justice, and that engine is to die for!

The Manta Mirage is far closer to this car than the Montage, oddly enough. But a very cool piece of history here!

That Manta does look nice - although the twin windscreen wipers are bit of a giveaway that it's not the real deal :D

As for the MacLaren Can-Am cars, the M6 is nice, and as the first championship winner so is historically significant, but I always preferred the look of M8F. And the Lola T70 spyder was always such a good looking machine, and I just love the sculptural wheelarch treatment of the Lola T222. And as for Jim Hall's Chapparral, I think the 2E was probably the best looking Can-Am car, and the 2F in sports car racing with Phil Hill at the wheel was totally awesome!

Actually, I just love the Can-Am, period. Sort of like Australian Rules football, but for cars; there was only one rule in Group 7 (to start with) and that was... there are no rules!

I bought "Can-Am - the Speed Odyssey" on DVD and its a cracker. Alas, all that there is now of this great racing series is what's on celluloid, although occasionally there are one or two historic races in the States.
