This has reappeared on gumtree with a price of £2000 ....i really like this car ! great colour and the lines seem to be right ! if only it didnt have that awful mass of exhaust pipe !! and the word "INTACEPTER " emblazoned across the back !

I think that the panel where it says INTACEPTER, is probably wire mesh. Look at the photo of the rear from the eBay auction (with the 'buy it now' price of £200,000!!), and the one showing the rear in the Gumtree add. There's a large hole in the back on the one from eBay, and the INTACEPTER mesh(?) on the one from Gumtree.
If that's the case, take the mesh off and just paint over the word, and put on a custom exhaust.

Agreed - I like this one too, it has that "something" that makes it desirable. It has a tipped forward stance but without overdoing it. I would definitely have been interested if I were still looking.
The rear end treatment is interesting, but as you say, that "Intacepter" rubbish would have to be ripped off before I even moved the car....
The exhaust is easy to fix, if rather expensive if you want something decent. I would like the one Jim has on his car - which sounds great, but is serious money even if you get lucky and find one second hand.
Interior looks to be a mess - what you can see of it, and the canopy evidently has to be propped up with a stick.
Looks to have well fitted glass side windows.
Wonder if the "air thingie" on the roof is functional (presumably to let air out) - or maybe it hides/houses a rear view camera.

Does a bit of time travle as well on ebay it was not run for 5 years, now on gumtree it was running 3 years ago.
TLC to remove the rubbish out of the inside, but at least the overspray has gone off the exhaust

Hi All,
Going over to Manchester to have a closer look at this car on Saturday. The seller says the car is an Avante Super Nova, is this a different manufacturer to original Mk 1 - 4 Nova's, I've not heard of this description before ?.
Any suggestions on possible problem areas to look at?. I'm aware of floor pan and suspension corrosion areas, and I'm ok with engine issues. Anything else to consider would be appreciated ?.
Seller is looking for £2000, car needs engine service / checking, electric issues with fuse board and front lights, interior incomplete. Any comments on value ??.
Thanks,
Mike.

As far as i am aware there is no such thing as an Avante super Nova ??
Avante is a diferent model alltogether ! a few of the members here own them and they certainly do not have hydraulic roofs ?
As for price ..... i am no expert but that does look a little expensive to me ! considering that its not running and the interior is such a mess ...but as with all things its how much you want it ! i have seen running nova's with m.o.t go for that price ,but they are rarer and rarer to find . i would say £1500 would be a fair price ..but would not blame you one bit for paying the asking price as its really not too much work to get a really nice looking nova back on the road  good luck !

Unless the car is much more finished than it sounds then personally I would agree with £1500 as being about right - but don't listen to a word I say, I paid far too much for my own one, because it had to be THAT one or nothing....
Hard to tell what Mark the car is - it is definitely a Nova, there is no such thing as an Avante Super Nova that I am aware of. The front under tray is MK1 style, the bonnet/hood is the later style, the rear end has been heavily modified (and quite well apart from the aforesaid "Intacepter" bit) and the canopy could be MK1 or MK2, my untutored eyes can't work it out from the long shots. There are plenty of more knowledgeable sorts here who will give you chapter and verse some time soon.
Lovely colour, nice period Wolfrace wheels - almost certainly came with the kit.
In inspection terms I would only add that you should find out if it has ever had a hydraulic roof - the canopy appears to be held up by a stick in at least one of the pictures, and you should have a good look at the wiring too - so often the worst bit of bodged kit cars (ask me how I know - the previous owners of my car must have had shares in chocolate box connectors).
Good luck with it.

It's a Mk 1 canopy, the later ones both had a higher 'eyebrow' over the top of the screen, Mk2s at a strange angle and rather rippled Mk4 following the angle of the screen (which had been made slightly less steeply angled also) this was one of the ways later Novas gained extra internal height over the Mk1s, along with an extra fillet of GRP around the wall of the cockpit tub.... £2000 doesn't sound too desperate, the idea that the price of a second hand Nova has to remain exactly what it would have been in 1988 shouldn't really be encouraged! Whatever you pay, you could well have to rip all the wiring out and start from scratch if you want it to make any sense!

In my humble opinion.
I don't like the rear light treatment, but as long as the floor pan/chassis was repairable without a body off job I'd go for it. £2k with what looks like a nice external finish, exchange engines are relatively cheap. Interior can be done over time (mine still is a sight not to be hold after 2 years on the road) and not a MOT failure.
Electrics again can be reasonably quick to fix to basic requirements and your on the road in a short amount of time with minimal additional out lay.
Is it worth £2k??????? that is entirely up to you & how much you want it. I would not like to work out how much I have wasted & invested in my reek. Was/is it worth it to me.........yes yes yes & yup.
Have a look, offer £1k (you can easily go up but harder to go down) he may bite your hand off
good luck

Thanks for all your advice. Some good points to look at.
Went over this morning for a look at the car. Its not been on the road since 1995, stored in a garage for last 7 years. After pumping tyres up pulled it out. Really nice colour, pale blue metallic. Car is definitely a Mk 1 car. Bonnet has been over skinned, with neat triangular detail at top edge, original nostrils still visible underneath. Based on 1971? car, according to MOT certs, drum brakes up front ?!. Some corrosion to tops of front shock mounts, and on floor pan dropped sections, both repairable with body on, I think. Engine is a 1600cc beetle air cooled lump, turns over by hand. Roof has original Smith ? hydraulic pump that works, slow and noisy. No interior in the car, blank canvas. New screen 6 years old. Wiring requires either starting again or a lot of head scratching.
Ended up agreeing sale at £1500. Pleased with that as a starting point. Could be on road for summer ??!!, if I get my finger out!.
Will put some photos on here when I get it home.
Mike.

Good on ya Mike,
Now get it home & pull your finger out. :whip:
If you want it on the road quick....stick to the basics & if it works don't fix or replace it....you can do that latter.
Good luck

'grats on the new project. Look forward to better pic's of this car, certainly a good starting point.

Congratulations! Don't think you'll go far wrong with that. Think your time estimate for on-the-road is wildly optimistic mind.....
