Hi All

This advert prompts me to ask a question.

On my own car the rear tunnel has a grotty old hacked out piece of thin perspex screwed directly to to the outside of the car - most of the screws have rusted away and the pathetic bit of rubber/plastic around the edge has long since rotted away.

Evidently there is supposed to be glass there judging by this advert, so how does it fit please? Should it attach to the tunnel? - it looks like it should in the photograph; presumably it should go in some sort of rubber seal. In fact - it looks like the tunnel slots in from the inside - in which case how does it seal at the outside? Maybe the glass/seal goes on once it has been pushed through - I don't know. I expect it will be obvious when I get to sorting that out, but there are plenty of other things to do first.

I guess what I am really asking is should I buy it for the glass? That will probably be cheaper and more convenient than having a piece cut to fit.

Thanks as always

Hi Steve - its not usually glass, unless someone has had some cut specially to size. The plastic window is bonded into the tunnel with mastic around the "step" halfway down the tunnel. The tunnel then sticks out through the bodywork inner and outer apertures, concealing the top of the fuel tank in the process.

I have double glazing (sort of). My tunnel is cut so that it doesn't stick out through the outer aperture, it just lines up perfectly. The tunnel has perspex bonded to it and the outer aperture has glass fitted with a normal rubber seal for windscreen

Now that's very interesting - the step thing makes sense of course, mine must have that too; I just haven't noticed. I do like that semi-double glazing idea though, I would imagine it must reduce the noise level at least a little (not that you would want to when you have an Alfa engine back there...).

Thanks for your replies folks, much appreciated.

Steve
