It has been & gone.

Not as big as last year & the evening entertainment didn't disapoint.

We had all four seasons as far as the weather was concerned & I have just discovered I have a small patch of sun burn on my neck. A first for me for any UK car show.

I'll post some pics later tonight. Domestic duties aparently come first.

The old girl looks good still - nice addition of driving lights in front bumper - remind me again why I sold her !?

So Nena was at Detling in the care of her new owners? That's nice to know. Also good to hear that you experienced four seasons instead of the usual 3 (autumn, winter and more winter), helps to justify moving the date :outahere:

I will get around to pictures sometime later this evening.

Lauren you missed a real treat as the new owner has reinstated the heater but it is controlled with a pair ofcustom built servos on the heater tubes & also on the demist cabin direction. And to top it off each servo feeds back to an LED bar graph to show the degree of opening of ach flap. The servos are controlled via toggle switches.

Pics of the day to follow.

Here are a couple of pics showing the line-up on the 2 days. I will post more over on the Club Nova Detling 2011 thread.

Lauren you missed a real treat

You're telling me - as well as Detling I missed the LMC trackday at Goodwood and the big Italian carfest at Beaulieu on Sunday. Plus I'm on-call at work which is playing havoc with my (already meagre) social life. Scrabbling around on the garage floor just doesn't have the same appeal!

I console myself that it will all be worthwhile in the end, but missing all the good shows at the beginning of the year has put a bit of a damper on my 2011 :(

Still, I haven't needed to do any welding this week, which means I must have made some progress.

I'm looking forward to seeing the fully electronified Nena climate control system pictures!

Sorry Lauren,

I didn't get any of his centre consol. It would have looked better at night when the LED's were lit.

Thanks for posting Martin, now I know what I missed

I had heard there was an F1-style single seater running around on the road, what is the power plant? Its too well concealed to even see the transmission, but nicely engineered exhaust and bellcrank operated rear suspension suggest it isn't your usual homebuilt "special" :D

I really like the UVA M6 GTR as well, but there's no need to overdo it with the badges and number plate - after all, there are only 3 originals in the world, so its obvious its a replica, especially with those ugly modern mirrors!!!

(I do like the tinted windows though, and the subtle opening side panes. Handy with so much glass area!)

...And a Bonito (or derivative) to wrap things up! Very nice :clapping:

(edit - just noticed the sidepipes and bonnet bulge, indicating a front engine - a Seraph, perhaps?)

If Mark wasn't at Villa d'Este Bertone bankruptsy sale, I'm sure he would agree its very nice :cool1:

Lauren,
When I was taking the pics of the F1 style single seater there were 3 of us laying on the ground & peaking into every opening that we could get our beady little eyes into. The conclusion is it is running an Alfa flat four of some description plus the gearbox. Rear brakes are inboard and I could just see the back of the head. There is a twin barrel down draft carby on each side. The owner wasnt around to pester into taking the engine cover off. But as you said, it is a well put together special indeed.

Ha! I was hoping you would say Alfa boxer - so the rumours are true about it being a flat-4!

In fact, it may even be one of the Formula Boxer chassis that Alfa constructed for a one-make racing series in the early 1980s. The cars all used the 1.7 16v boxer engine and transmission, with Motronic EFI. Unfortunately Alfa was bought by Fiat who axed the series... and ultimately axed the boxer engine as well!

What was probably the same car has appeared in the Alfa club magazine, but again, the owner seems a bit reticent and other than fleeting glimpses of the car on the road, nobody seems to know anything about the car or its owner!

Lauren,
They look like carbs to me. I took these shots trying to see what the engine was.

The Bonito appears to be an unusually well executed version of the Ford-based Excalibur, manufactured in Cornwall, apparently. Not sure where it fits in the hostorical timeline (post Fiberfab Bonito, but before or after the Seraph?), but no earlier than 1980s...

Yup - definitely not 16v throttle bodies. But the Formula suspension still looks very slick. I've only just figured out the exhaust system as well - very entertaining! 2-1 collectors each side of the gearbox, balance pipe across the back, then a twin folded silencer arrangement above it. I wonder what it sounds like?

I think I can also see the Alfa gear selector lever on the back of the gearbox. Very nice - apart from the tasteless Ferrari graphics. Alfa Romeo used to build F1 cars too you know! With boxer engines too (like the 1978 Brabham-Alfa BT46 "Fan Car" :D)

I was thinking Excalibur too, nice car but please.......ditch the sidepipes and the tea tray on the boot! :)

Its the same old story really - take a classic shape from the past (GT40 in this case) and bring it up to date with all the latest tat. At least furry dice and a stick-on sun strip are period accessories!

Other than Club Nova pictures this is the only vehicle that caught my eye at the show - not a kit I know, but a beautifully detailed example of my first ever car.

You're right Alex. My measley 1200 Cortina only had the capacity of 2 of those eight cylinders and the BHP wouldn't have been enough to spin that blower let alone move the car!!
