can anyone give me an idea as to the oil temp/pressure i should have on my 1600cc air cooled beetle engine so that i can
check my new guages when i fit them.
many thanks.

I use 'old fashioned' 20w50 multigrade oil and get about 40psi cold which drops to about 20psi when hot. Engine oil temp via a VDO 'dipstick' guage is 80c - 100c. At tickover, when hot , my mechanical pressure guage reads zero though. My engine is a 1600 'dual relief case' with brand new oil pump fitted.
Hope this helps.

I have a 1600cc type II (1641cc conversion) engine with flull flow conversion. I run 10w40 synthetic with 1.5L sump add on, external filter and dynaflo oil cooler with fan with 88 degree switch. Oil temp is about 80 to 88 on a normal loaded run with the fan kicking in at long traffice hold ups only. Oil pressure is higher as I have a higher rated system and adjustable oil pressure relief valve spring up to 8o psi,(adjusted to about 55 psi. Oil temp sender goes in bottom right where the none type 1 engines have the filler tube. Standard oil pressure warning light. Oil pressure is higher on a high revving engine (7,000 + rpm) compared to a standard 1600, (max 5,000 rpm)

10psi for every 1000 rpm is a general rule if you're using straight 30 weight oil. Temps when hot and under load shouldn't exceed 215°(F).
