I'm re-filling the water system. I'll be using 60% anti freeze.

What's best - hard water or softened water? I have access to both.

Cheers,
Giles.

It doesn't really matter that much as the system is sealed. If you put calcium-rich (hard) water in, the scale will all coat the inside of the system to whatever minute depth the first time it gets hot and that will be it. If you use soft water the acid will munch a minute amount of the copper until it's exhausted and that will be it. The anti-corrosion/anti scale factors in the anti-freeze will limit either effect anyway, so really not a worry.
It's a totally different ball game in a constantly refreshed system like a household hot water cylinder or kettle.....

If anyone's having overheating problems, I'd recommend Evans NPG-R coolant. It's not cheap, but I'm using it in mine because it saved me having to use rads twice the size.
