If it's a cross flow engine then it's a Pinto 1.6, earlier engines were not cross flow and were the Kent, much more than that browes Wikipedia or Google, or try a Ford dealership.

Are you trying to fit this engine in a Nova or Eagle. If not then you've probably joined the wrong site and should look for a Ford enthusiast site. If you have a Nova or similar kit-car then post some details and pictures in the 'Your Cars' area of this forum.

Thanks

Thanks Dan

Richard - how about putting up some details of your Avante. All members are keen to see others cars and offer help and advice where needed. What part of th country are you in? Is your Avante on the road? Will you be coming to any of the shows next season?

Peter it's a CVH engine NOT a pinto or kent engine keep up.

My question would be if you know it is a 1600cc and a cvh why do you need to know what age or other info. If you are doing a rebuild you need to know if it has ever been over bored or not (check piston head for any stampings) or if the head has been ported or not other than that the only other bit of info I can give is to see if there is an oil return pipe on the block which would mean that it was originally a turbo block.

Alternatively get onto a Ford escort owners forum, the cvh engines appeared in the Mk3 Escorts so they will have a load of info for you.

I think that is simular to the one I had in my fiesta, crock of crap that was. Leaked, rattled and finaly burst into flames.

Interesting engine, the CVH. I can't remember what the whole acronym stands for, but the H is for hemispherical combustion chambers. When it first came out, in the Mk3 Escort at the beginning of the 1980s, it produced something like 90 bhp from 1600cc, which was pretty good in its day.

The problem was that the engine had been gas-flowed to the max during the design phase, so that when the engine tuners finally got their hands on them, they couldn't extract more than 110 bhp, and that sort of sealed its fate really.

Although bolting a turbo on helped.

Compound Valve angle Hemispherical combustion chamber.

My very first job (back in '78) was in the parts department at Currie Motors when they used to be a Ford dealer :drive:.

Hi Richard,

The Burton Power website has a section with engine numbers listed by date of manufacture and a summary of most of the Ford engines. It was very helpful with my Zero build.
