I have been told that i can fit the temp sender into the oil drain plug. will this work ok or do i have to drill a hole into the engine caseing to get a true reading.

Machine 7 currently have an offer on a replacement oil cover with offset drain plg hole and VDO oil temp sensor. I have the type that fits in the dip-stick hole and it works really well.

I have tried both and currently have one on the sump, the one that gives the best indicator is the dip stick type but depends how accurate you want to be

Same here, fitted in place of oil dipstick and seems to give accurate enough readings.
