So... the last breakfast club of the year at Goodwood. The theme – Italians. The weather – glorious (and surprisingly warm for early October). The camera of choice? 35mm, of course, with B&W film and my widest wide-angle lens, because you just know it is going to be rammed to the gills!

Here we go...

I've not seen those wheels before. Flare at right seems to be from exposed film, probably didn't wind it on enough to start with (don't worry, they get better from here on...)

Fiat Dino coupe is a later 2.4 litre version. You can tell by the square mesh grille. The early 2 litre cars (like the ones in the Italian Job) have hexagonal mesh, which looks classier I think :D

Fiat 124 Sport coupe uses the same rear lights as a Lamborghini Espada. Or should that be the other way around...?

Aventador shows off its stealth-like features. Probably won't make any difference to the RCS in reality, but full marks for menacing looks!

Lancia Gamma coupe. I've always liked the sharp Pininfarina styling, and more than once I have wondered about using the 2.5 litre, 140 bhp boxer engine and transmission in a mid-engined car...

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00021_zps5e9fc06e.jpg (http://s574.photobucket.com/user/Spacenut_photos/media/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00021_zps5e9fc06e.jpg.html%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00021_zps5e9fc06e.jpg%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL)

Speaking of engines for mid-engined cars, here's a Lancia Fulvia coupe engine, otherwise known as the motive force in the legendary Stratos Zero concept. Interesting engine, it is actually a narrow-angle V4 the staggered cylinders allow the length of the block to be reduced so the engine can be fitted longitudinally, instead of transversely. Note the engine is slanted to the left, to compensate for the weight of the driver on the right hand side. With most of Europe driving left-hookers, this was race thinking at work the majority of circuits run clockwise, making RHD an advantage wherever you live!

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00023_zpsd75ea4ac.jpg (http://s574.photobucket.com/user/Spacenut_photos/media/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00023_zpsd75ea4ac.jpg.html%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00023_zpsd75ea4ac.jpg%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL)

Early Fiat 128 coupe, later cars had a hatchback instead of a boot and subtly re-styled C-pillars.

http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00022_zps74e77e31.jpg (http://s574.photobucket.com/user/Spacenut_photos/media/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00022_zps74e77e31.jpg.html%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss187/Spacenut_photos/Goodwood%20Italians%202013/CNV00022_zps74e77e31.jpg%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL)

And here's an early 365 BB, using the 4-litre incarnation of Ferraris road-going 12-cylinder boxer engine. For all its sophistication, the engine was located directly over the top of the transmission, just like the chain-drive Olds 455. Dynamic foibles included a rearward weight bias and a propensity to roll-oversteer, but a style icon nonetheless...

Not a kit, but almost certainly not one of the 7 (or 9, or however many originals there were) production Ferrari Daytona convertibles either. Flawless paintwork (in a colour that was not Rosso Red), Borranis with the correct 70 profile XWXs all point to a coupe with a roof chop...

Snail's eye view of the fabulous Bizzarrini Strada 5300. Big embarrassment for the driver when it was time to leave, after a year of inactivity, and a misty drive to Goodwood with the lights on, the battery was dead. Fortunately, at these sort of events there is always a Ferrari 330 GT around when you need a jump-start...

Some great classics, love older Italian cars thanks, :clapping:
Only one thing to say, I have a load of 35mm stuff, mostly Praktica, love 35mm B&W but LENS HOOD?:cool1:

Yes, I think you are probably right!

Wouldn't stop the lens flare when I point directly at the sun though.

...And although I am using a Praktica too, the Zeiss Flektogon wide-angle has a mahoosive objective lens, so finding a suitable hood might be tricky!

Loving some of the contra jour pics ...... got a good eye there.
you can always use your hand (after focusing of course) to provide a little extra shade.... slr's show about 90% of the image in the viewfinder that you will get on the negative so if you do ever do that remember to add a little extra distance ........ also do you own a polarising filter? ..... they can make B+W very punchy too, great for eliminating reflections in glass or the bodywork but will only work in one plane.... so on a 3/4 shot you'll either clear the front or the side but not both....... wont do naff all to anything chromed though........ that's this years tip fest done.
Keep it up,
E-Dave:clapping:

Thanks Dave, Mk1 mitt sounds like a cheaper alternative to a Zeiss sunshade, I'll give it a go!

I've got skylight filters on my standard lens (Zeiss 50mm and 29mm Pentacon wide-angle), plus a set of colour filters and adapter rings for the same, but the Flek has a much larger objective lens which would need a set all of its own, unless I use those big square filters (Cokin?). I rather like all the refraction effects to be honest.

Then there is the Pentacon 300mm F4, which is even bigger!
