Hi All,
Not as active on the forum as I used to be. Life gets in the way sometimes... and cross-pollination from the US forum might get a tad redundant. Anyway, here are some shots from this weekend's show. I'll keep the commentary to a minimum..

Friday, of course, started as a washout. The NWS had announced that the local creeks and rivers were going to crest at 9.1' - a full 3' or so above flood stage. The fairgrounds itself isn't really located near any of those creeks or rivers, but getting there was another issue. The PA turnpike crosses over several rivers and larger creeks and it was an impressive look-see. The rain did cause issues driving of course:

that little beauty caused a 3 mile backup by the time I reached that point.

The kits are, of course, the Sterling and Cimbria, the Jamaican, the two Lamborghini's below and the Porsche Speedsters. Buggies are somewhere in the mix... the rest of the field are the "real" cars!

Great stuff Rick! Glad you made it there and back without incident.

UK-registered Lomax 3-wheeler is a little off-course!

I love the Auburn Speedster (are you sure it isn't a replica? I seem to remember there was one), and what was that black Bugatti Atlantique-style car?

Kits at Carlisle seems to be more like Classics at Carlisle every year. I'm not complaining as I love classics, but it does suggest that there is a slump in kit car sales in the US as well as here in the UK :-(

Lauren

PS - Guy Mabee Drilling? From Midland Texas, home of the domestic oil rig??? It's a joke right?

:tongue1: Waiting to see which you thought were replicas or not. Yes, the Auburn Cord is a replica and very well done. The owner and I sat and talked for quite a while. The Atlantic... something new for this side of the pond. It's a "tribute" car, and unfortunately I didn't catch it until it pulled away. The company info is here: www.delahayeusa.com From all who saw it said it was stunning... and for sale for $100K.

Guy Maybee Drilling... nope, the real deal: a full-on 1953 Victress race car who insisted on running up and down the aisles Sunday giving rides to those who weren't fortunate enough to purchase it on Friday. More info here: http://www.curbsideclassic.com/uncategorized/bonneville-classics-1953-maybee-special/

As for the decline in the kits... absolutely. Lots of hard talk with the promoter on how to entice more to come to the show, but it seems the bottom line is the owners of the older kits are, themselves, getting older and no longer want to participate. The "younger generation" (geez... hit 50 and look how you talk) has no interest in the kits of the past. They want a ready to drive car that can be tuned on a laptop.

Ah - well, the Diablos look suss, and the Countach is VERY suss, but the Sterlings look genuine to me :whistling:

Delahaye recreation looks fabulous, like the Chrysler Atlantique concept, although I bet it doesn't have a straight-eight made out of two Neon engines joined together!

Yep, Diablo's are replicas, the Countach is the real deal. Shame I hadn't seen the Atlantic before it pulled out. It was powered by a V12 BMW engine and drivetrain. 12 pipes out the back!

Nice!

So what's with the stupid aftermarket aircleaner on the Countach then? Is it a turbo conversion or something???

(it was the aircleaner that made me think it was a replica - that and the non-factory perforated plate over the exhaust...)

Dunno. The owner wasn't around for me to ask any pertinent questions, so perhaps the air filters were just his way of customizing. The engine was pure Lamborghini... no question.

There will always be some who reminds us how NOT to do it and what bad taste is. Poor Lambo, deserves better.

Fair enough - I shouldn't have decided real or fake on the basis of an air cleaner anyway :D

Great HQ pics, thanks for posting. :clapping:

Were the Sterlings at the show built on conventional VW floorpan(s)?
Just wondered if you see many cars built on any of the tube chassis available from sterlingsportscars.com?

Hi Steve,
The Sterlings and Cimbria that showed were on conventional VW pans. Dave's tube chassis' are few and far between. The owners of those are in the midwest, west coast or even overseas - and not close at all to the event. Unfortunately I haven't seen any completed cars using his chassis, so I've been trying to push him to have a complete, running car with one for next year. We'll see!
