We've been asked to make this car know to anybody here that might be interested in bidding, so here goes:
Hello

I have for sale a nova kit car reg number FKM912L, the car is going to auction in Telford and currently i am unaware of when it will go through the auction - I can confirm the date when I have been informed. Bidding can be completed online if required, can you please ask your members if they are interested in the vehicle. The car runs and all is required is a hydraulic pump for lifting the cab, the interior is really nice and someone has spent time and money on this car, it also has 20 inch alloys that are new. I hope this helps your club and any prospective buyer, my father is the owner of the car and is a member of your club his name is Mike Richards.

The website for the auction is http://www.wilsonsauctions.com, our write car auctions in Telford in Google.

Regards Karl

Absolutely not my cup of tea for several reasons, but it's a Nova and it's for sale, so if it floats your boat you can get bidding!

I'd take a hacksaw to that back wing...
but if the rest of the car is up to the standard of the interior, it's quite a vehicle.

I'd love to see the Spec. and some all-round pics?

Very nice trim, bloody horrible wing and ugly exhaust, 20" wheels a bit larger than the usual 15" but we need to see a profile picture to see it properly. Rear lights are weird, two stop/tail/indicator but no fog (unless using a stop but then why a separate fog?) or reverse, so swapping the two inboard ones for rev/fog would be a good idea.

Being in Telford I was wondering if the trim was by Intatrim of Telford, they did my original seats, Looks like their handwork

Interesting that the car has changed from a Q Reg (older photos) to a date-related number plate...

Turbovec wheels (scrape the blue paint off) looking nice...

Thanks for posting the older pictures Undertaker I will add it to the Nova database. Maybe I need to add another column to capture previous and current VRN's in case someone else manages to do a similar trick.

Mine had an earlier number (I think it's still there under the front plate) I'll look it out sometime.

I hadn't realised it was THAT blue car, I remember that being on Ebay.....(and it's obviously developed the over-sized rims since then as it was running conventional Turbo-vecs in those pictures.)

No need for a fog, I removed mine as well.
Same seats as mine, with a wee bit of removal of extras, it looks like a decent Nova.
Mk1 looks better, I think they got it right with the first one.
Should put it on here with a price, save auction fees.
If I was still looking, I would go for this one, depends on the price of course.

I always thought once it was a Q-Plate you were stuck with it for life! Maybe some funny (read illegal) ringing has taken place to get it off the Q-Plate..........

I know I tried very legal way to not get a Q and then I tried to change it, even with a 'birth certificate for the March 1966 car, no joy.

Maybe something for a potential buyer to beware of?
Do we know if it has a V5C in the age related VRN that states Nova ?

One for the moderators.

Given that we know DVLA peruse these sites, and that they peruse car magazines and request inspections of vehicles based on these observations should we be having this conversation here?

Agree wholly there are some questions to ask, potentially of the seller, and there are risks to buyers, but this is a public forum, and we shouldn't been seen to be encouraging or tolerating these practices.

In fact, to answer my own question, I did a query on the DVLA website and got the following:
It also states the MOT expired in Oct 2013.

We don't encourage these practises on the forum and won't tolerate posts that encourage it. The whole subject is an iffy one for discussion in general and is best avoided where possible.

maybe they replaced the chassis and the number came from that?

The nova is the plastic bit that sits on a chassis.
You can put it on any chassis you like, nothing dodgy about putting the body on another beetle.
You can still put a new buggy body on a beetle chassis, same thing.
You are now buying a different beetle with the old body on it.
Now you can change the beetle to modified.
That is how i see the regs.
Ciuld be wrong though.

7. Kit-converted vehicles

Your vehicle must meet the road vehicles regulations if you use it on the road.A kit-converted vehicle has had:a kit of new parts added to an existing vehicle, orold parts added to a new kitThe general appearance of the vehicle will change because of the kit.

How to register

You must follow all the instructions for registering a new vehicle. You’ll need to include the following with your application:form V627/1 - ‘Built up vehicle inspection report’the vehicle registration certificate for the original vehicleevidence of type approval, if necessary – see ‘Vehicle type approval’ belowofficial receipts for any parts usedbuild plansphotographs of the vehicleContact DVLA if you’re not sure about what you need to provide.Send your application to:K and R DVLA SA99 1ZZ

Keep a vehicle’s original registration number

You can apply to keep a kit converted vehicle’s original registration number if you can prove you’ve used 2 original major parts along with the original unmodified:chassis (car or light van)monocoque bodyshell (car or light van)frame (motorbike)

From the above, I am thinking that any beetle can have a nova kit fitted and as long as you use just 2 major bits of the original beetle, you are ok.
The unused nova kit can easily be registered with a beetle chassis with gearbox and rear axle.
Any Q reg can be changed to age related if fitted to an old chassis with 2 major bits legally.
Dealing with dvla will still not be easy though.

The car sold today at auction, the question is who got it...I know of a couple of forum members who were present at the auction and the seller told me it went to an enthusiast...we shall see.

Well after some discussions and negotiations we decided not to bid against one another, pointless. So I believe its on it way south and not north. A 1000 mile round trip to look at it. Though I did meet two wonderful guys when I picked up my type 3 engine. There are still great guys in sheds. Anyway the important notice the car went south but the keys have come north. So if the relevant parties contact me with an address I will POST them down. Sorry no hand deliveries.
Cheers John

Since it was a public auction, what was the winning bid and the buyer/seller fees.

Gary (Scorpion) have you created a separate thread for this car for its new owner yet?

I was going to post the progress we made today but can't find a specific 'Your Cars' thread to put it in.

Actually, I'm sure I haven't seen one so I'll make one - Winged Nova. I'm sure Dan can fix it if I'm wrong.
