I'm looking out for an exhaust system for my car and was considering and empi like these:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SA-Dual-Cannons-EMPI-Black-With-Out-Heat-NEW-De-AC2513373/361373774875?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.M BE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D45992%26meid%3D45f50e8d55214bb 881286fc8c55ec964%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D 6%26sd%3D351807581500&_trksid=p2047675.c10

I realise I can't use heat exchangers with these but I like the look of these but am worried in case they won't fit under the Novas rear valence?

Any thoughts on these or suggestions for an alternative?

No heat exchangers in Scotland?...... They'll be loud - probably unpleasantly so - you can get away with it in a buggy because the lack of bodywork lets the sound escape - in a Nova you suffer.

They wcan fit, and you can always cut the strap that supports 'silencer' and bend gently to get the angle needed but they are not best for a beetle engine. A merged system that joins both halves is better. I have run these on various buggies as short term options, and still have a spare set in the shed, but always take them off and replace.

How about an EMPI twin tuck Away?

Phill,

I remember when I was changing the exhaust on my Mk2, I was frustrated with just how high the rear valance actually was. Too much of the engine was exposed, hence my article in the old Nova Newsletter to remodel the valance by extending it downwards.

I guess you have 2 options ... stick with the valance and get an exhaust to fit (or be cut and welded to fit) or go with an exhaust system you really want, and start re-modelling your rear valance. The rear of the Nova is the one area of the car which seems to get folk doing their own thing. The classic Mk1 suited the car but later versions ... well, each to his/her own ....

If I was you, (I wish my car was so near to being road legal!) I'd do whatever it takes to get my MOT, and then I'd fine tune at my leisure. Looking forward to seeing your car driving into my driveway one day soon!

I originally had something similar, except they did have heat exchangers. These also were not connected side to side. They sounded great and I never had any issues with the 1600 beetle engine with them.

I will certainly be trying to get or fabricate something similar for the type four engine when I get to that point, as I think they suit the cars looks very well, as do the EMPI ones you are looking at.

My only concern is the fitting, as the rear body will be sitting somewhat lower than it was originally at the back.

I have got something similar fitted to the Avante and they are too LOUD anything over 60 MPH and you can not have a conversation in the car, It gets very tiring when you do a long run an a motorway and you find it a real relief when you hit road works and come back down to 50MPH.
