Hi Guys

The Nova I am hopefully buying soon was factory built in 1980 ..Registered on the V5 as a Nova sports ,and the chassis is a 1967 Beetle ...But the guy I'm buying it from said he never got round to contacting DVLA ...I assume I just inform them that the chassis number will show its a 1967 or will they end up wanting to examine the car and possibly might make her the dreaded Q plate or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Cheers

Dave

The V5 will show the year of registration but not the year of manufacture.

To check the year of manufacture recorded on the DVLA database go to https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

And enter your cars reg no.

The results should show the registration details including the year of manufacture - so in your case this should be 1980 and 1967 (Mine is recorded as 1985 and 1967)

That being the case - all should be well

Dave,

Phill's right. Mine's 1988 and 1970.

Next thing for you to consider is the issue of getting the DVLA to acknowledge that the car is a 'Historic Vehicle' (ie you should be tax exempt, and you may not require an MOT ... but for your own security you should either get a 'voluntary' MOT or an engineer's report).

Phill started a helpful thread on this earlier this year .... http://www.euro-nova.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?6878-VHI-Vehicles-of-Historic-Interest

If it is Tax exempt you do not need to contact DVLA you just change it at the post office when you go to tax it, nice and easy.

Is the V5 blue or red? If not updated to a 'red' version, you will need to ring them and they will send it out... It depends if the car has been recently taxed; mine had been off the road for so long that they never sent me a red V5 when they were 'automatically' updated some years ago! `¨)

Mine had the 'old' blue v5 (date of first registration 1969), sent it to the DVLA & they sent me a new red one. Then I taxed it. Then they sent me another red v5 reclassifying the car as a historic vehicle. Then they refunded the road tax I'd just paid. I didn't have to ask them to do anything.

The priority would be to get the V5 sent off straight away so that it is in your name.

If it is showing as a 1967, leave well alone! Do not complicate things for yourself in trying to change things. 1967 means free road tax !
Historic vehicles and mot's. This is a minefield but it is fairly obvious that your car will not fall into this category and will need to be mot'd. It is a much safer approach.
You already have the luxury of the car being recorded as a Nova Sports which many on this forum would like theirs to say. Just ensure that the chassis number recorded on the V5 is the same as on the car. If you have a nice MOT person all they will want to see is plate showing this number. I have a plate stamped under the bonnet and they are happy with that.

Hope this helps..

Vehicle make:
NOVA

Date of first registration:

September 1980

Year of manufacture:

1980

Cylinder capacity (cc):

1500 cc

V5 is blue,
chassis number is 118577509
can I check with VW ?? or am I screwed because when built in factory they never declared chassis was from a 1967???

Add the reg number so we can see.
At the moment you just have to pay for taxing the car.
It could be a lot worse and you donít have a V5!

The bonus is that it is a true 1980 car, so in just over a year it will be a true historic car being 40 years old.
That is a big plus 👍

Could it be so the factory could sell it as a new car??

They probably built it for a customer rather than the customer built the car.
And the tax is £155 a year!
For that, itís worth it now that you have a nova 👍

You can have the plates, and many people get away with displaying them.
But if you get stopped, just be prepared for the fine.......

Mark's right, Captain Mainwaring ... don't panic, don't panic!

1. DVLA have your Nova on record (and it's registered as a Nova)
2. You (ok the current owner) has the V5
3. It'll be tax exempt in 2020

.... just start posting lots of photos for the rest of us on the Forum ... (we love photos!) and aim to get her on the road as soon as you can :drive:

Dave,

It's great to see it at last. Is that the same one you showed us under the 'wanted' section with the slot mags? If so, are you getting the slot mags with it? The floor looks solid and body's pretty good too. Does the engine run, or at least turn over by hand?

Looks like a good project with hopefully nothing too major, but what's going on with the suspension? It's sitting very low but that's easily sorted. Have you started a 'to do' list yet?

It's a pity you don't have somewhere to store it nearer to home because I think you'd actually enjoy getting your hands dirty with a bit of local help to speed things along.

Keep going!!

Alistair

Nice update Glasgow, thanks for posting; another early Elam Mk1.
Is the gel-coat black has it been resprayed?

I like the opening side windows, I'd like something similar on my car.
I also like the 3-clock dash, do you know what that is off?

No Smiths, well not the 'normal' Smiths pump used in the Nova.

That one looks more like WWII Lancaster bomber.
