Nice neat solution for the steering column going through the bulkhead
First and only wife, 40 years and counting, and I've only had my Nova 13.5 years. Mind you I did have a brief 2 year fling with another Nova back in the 1980's..
Thanks for all the advice. A suitable manifold is about £180 so given that this would only be temporary, and with minimal performance gains I think I'll put the idea on hold
Thanks Alistair
Just a thought - would it be worthwhile fitting the weber 32/36 that came with the engine onto my 1300cc twinport in the meantime? Any idea what sort of power increase it would...
That would be great Alistair - I've just been looking on line at the price of engine stands and yokes. I rebuilt my existing engine on the garage floor but a stand would make it much easier.
Pleased to see you're back working on the car. Hopefully you'll make rapid progress this spring and summer and we'll soon see the body fitted back on the car. That's the moment when you'll see...
No I never saw it running as it was already removed from the Camper van - this is why I'm keen to get a bellhousing to try running it before I take it apart to pinpoint the area I need to concentrate...
As far as I know it's just the splines on the type 4 clutch plate that are different - so I need to substitute the type 4 clutch with a type 1 clutch plate of suitable diameter (200mm I believe)
I did just as you have suggested and it's quite clear there are no sticking valves or signs of combustion getting into the valve cover area which might have indicated a faulty valve
When I rebuilt my Beetle engine I had it in and out of the car three times before I had it working properly. For that reason alone I think it would be useful to be able to test compressions and even...
This is the engine in question. 1700cc out of a camper van. Fitted with a weber carb.
I'm hoping to get hold of a transaxle bellhousing so that I can spin the engine up while it's out of the car...
It's looking amazing Mike and you have certainly made rapid progress well done:clapping:
Not sure if this version of the engine has hydraulic tappets - it's a 72/73 engine? My own thoughts are that the sound is the same as you might hear if a spark plug was missing, so perhaps something...
I like it with the exception of the windscreen and flimsy soft top arrangement. Instead of a full screen it would be better with a cut down wind deflector instead, such as the type seen on Can Am...
Looks like an abandoned project that never saw the light of day? There's a distinct lack of holes in the bodywork to indicate it was ever put together. The rear louvre is missing too, but never the...
So the good news is I've managed to source a type 4 engine for my car. It will require a full re-build though and as my current engine does the job I'm in no great rush to do it. The engine runs but...
And maybe fit a sunroof? :coat:
Welcome Norris or is it Jonathan? My car is a similar colour scheme as yours, I think the Gulf colours really suit the Nova and hope you enjoy your new car as much as I have enjoyed mine.
It mentions a good screen but no sign of it in the photos. Even without a screen it's a good price.
Built 1980 so MK1 derivative (early Elam model maybe)?
Yes - it's the law..
Hi and welcome to the forum. Did you buy the car for yourself or to sell on?
Marks Nova is back up for sale - £13.5k now - I think the speculators have moved in

Yes he is actively seeking one now but told me he hasn't seen anything he considers suitable as all the ones he's seen were too hacked about for his liking. I encouraged him to join this forum as a...
Yes my jaw dropped too when I saw the price. However, they're worth whatever someone is prepared to pay and in the classic car world there are loads of examples of jaw dropping prices paid for cars...
