    I can relate to what happened to your car pumping a lot of heat through the vents; a paint tin was left in the rear footwell of my old bug, right in front of the heater outlet and it generated enough heat to pop the tin open and stink the car out (the old girl had just been re-sprayed and John (The guy who sprayed it for me) left he tin of paint in the footwell in case I needed to do any touching up)
    And you're right about many/most available domestic pipes not being able to withstand the kinds of heat we're talking about.

    The aluminum (or as you Brits say aluminum ) ducting finally came in and got it fitted to the heater boxes with some 2 inch pipe clamps. The other end is, for now, connected to 2 inch black ABS pipe running up the sides of the car to the footwell heater vents. I ran the engine a while, played with the open/close lever for the heater box vents and was pleased with the bit of heat coming out of them. Nothing too hot, but I will continue to run up the engine and test how warm things get, and possible replace all the ABS bits one day.

    I got around to uncovering the other body I bought last year to have a better look at it. Here are some interesting things I found.
    The canopy seal is just screwed on all around the perimeter. I've been worried about adhesives, perhaps this is a very simple alternative? Thoughts anyone?


    Next, one of the previous owners used pin switches at the top rear of the side windows, perhaps wired to an alarm?





    Top corner of the canopy, I saw this. A small Sterling badge and this sticker, which took me a few glances to understand what it really was. Odd place for it I think.


    At the bottom right corner of the windshield I spotted wires and something encased in small vinyl pouch.


    As you can barely see, there is a very thin wire there, and it runs the perimeter of the windshield. I think it's a thermal wire, perhaps to heat the edges of the glass to help prevent moisture build up? Anyone see this before?

    And finally, these headlight bucket stand-off mounting brackets behind the headlights. I've never seen these before. Any idea what they're from?

    Nic,

    Many people use screws to hold the seal in place whilst sealant sets. Some leave them, some remove them after. By the looks of the photo they did the same, as it appears there is sealant in addition to the screws

    OK, I see what the courtesy light switches are doing. Quite a neat idea if your side windows open

    I wonder if the conductive strip around the windscreen is a radio aerial/antenna. It's true you can get windscreen heating elements that use the same trick, but the current required to demist the screen is quite high, so the electrical terminals would be pretty beefy (around 30A). Radio antenna on the other hand... signal strength will be microamps at best, so easy to interface.

    I took a closer look at the wire running around the windshield, it is indeed a radio antenna.

    No additional progress on the windshield yet, but it is sitting in the yellow canopy and held in place with tape. I have been doing additional work on the heat and fresh air delivery.

    Fresh air using a 4" bilge blower fan and adapter down to 2.5" run through and into the cabin. I'm fabricating a piece to mate up that hose to feed the 2 vents on either side of the dash.


    Sorry about the picture quality, but you can see the hose peeking through.


    I have the driver side heating almost fully connected. I had to fabricate a fiberglass piece to fit the contours of the inner side pods, and then epoxied an elbow to it. This will feed the demisting vents for the windshield.


    And the rest of the piping running to back. I have it ziptied along the way for support and to reduce rattling. Also screws to help keep the hose in place.
