Making changes may or may not work as it should. Send it back and get exactly what you want.

I am also surprised as how cheap your unit was as I paid $900 for mine, but it's a great machine, couldn't be happier.

I 'could' spend thousands on a machine that will do anything, MMA, MAG/MIG, TIG etc but all I need is one that will weld thin sheet as well as the odd 2mm thick pole for the stable corrals. A 100Amp MIG will do but as I said the cost of gas is stupid here, even on eBay. (shipping doesn't help). Looking at a lot of youtube videos it seems quite simple and it appears that folk who experience"'hot and grotty" welding with Flux wire DCEN are using it on DCEP gas machines.

So I guess I will have to learn to use one without gas and cored wired rather than MAG welding.
Your right I don't spend $120USD on a bottle, I spend $148USD for a bottle of 75/25(argon/CO2). Depending on how much welding I do it will last over a year for me and a regulator is a one time purchase.

If you researched it as you have stated you will know then that flux core wire is not the way to go for welding thin sheet metal which is what your using it for. Flux core wire has its place in welding but welding thin sheet metal is not its place.

To weld thin metal you use short tac welds to keep heat at a minimum otherwise the metal will warp and distort. Flux core produces more heat than the gas version and you have to remove the slag between welds and with the layer of slag over the weld it holds heat in longer not to mention the smoke and fumes it produces

So after watching your posts I could see no reason to get into a debate with you on the subject.
Thats why I haven't commented on it. It doesn't seem like you would listen anyway, the cost seems to be more of a factor to you than getting the proper welder for the job.

Hi Brett, Your input is ALWAYS welcome as I know you know what you know, if you know what I mean.
Never take offense, ever. PM on Stirling forum.

This is a changeable unit with just a roller and cable swap to do as well as tip and shield of course. Comes with wires, tips, regulator, gas hose, etc. Way too good to be true. I did write to the seller after it showed as shipped if he was sure of the price and why so low, silencer is the deafening reply so far.

Currently stuck in doors due to regulations, we have it by Royal decree, not 'advisory' and scenes of a jogger being forcibly put into a police car accompanied by abusive shouts from nearby residents of ' douche bag, idiot, stupid etc are the only replies to her cries for help, who is coming to the rescue, the police?

    What is open,

    Petrol stations,
    Supermarkets
    Hair dressers
    Chemists

    That's all folks.

Only people ALLOWED on the streets are Police and army, dog walkers. Shoppers, alone. Workers on essential services.

One is allowed to drive (alone) or walk to work and back.

Driving is allowed but driver ONLY, no passengers other than taxis with ONE passenger IN THE REAR, so I am told.

Closure of ALL bars, clubs, entertainment venues, cinemas, theaters, sporting events, etc by law, not advised. no congregating, at all.

Makes Mr. Johnson's 'advise' seem kinda weak.

    Latest gas prices CO2/Argon, 34.84€ a 1 liter disposable

    https://www.ebay.es/sch/i.html?_odkw...argon&_sacat=0

Half price in Italy but shipping makes it about the same.

98€ for 8 liters refillable but shipping high. nothing local. that's within 30 miles. none on Spanish eBay due to restrictions but from Germany, Poland and Italy but plus shipping.

Well if its not available there's not much you can do about that.
Sometimes I don't realize how good I got it. The welding supply companies here also supply oxygen and other gases to the local hospitals so there is no problem getting the stuff. I drive 30 minutes to the shop and exchange my empty bottle for a full one and I'm on my way. If I came across being to harsh....Sorry
Welding thin sheet metal with flux core wire will not be fun but it can be done. Just make sure to clean off all the slag between spot welds.

I'll check PM's on the sterling site. I only sign in there if I have to.

Hi Brett, too harsh? not a chance.

"how good you got it", Lets see, car is a garage attached to you residence to be worked on as and when you have time. The wife isn't on your neck to sell "the money pit", you have a breakers just down the road pick and pull. You have materials at sometimes half what I would pay and you are in the USA where cost of living, pro-rota, is better than Europe by a long way. (says my bro' in Alabama) That sounds pretty good to me mate. I also was surprised on my first 'pop to the mall' as it was 40 minuets away and considered 'local' by Bob.

I saw a guy welding a car wing with flux wire on YouTube and he used a copper dolly heat sink behind the metal, where the hell do I get one of those

Just to show the problem, The whole of Spain is about only twice the area of Nevada but where we live on the Costa del Sol is tourist mostly and hardly any commercial fabrication or factories at all. Nearest ''gas depot' would be Algercires, an 50 minuet drive or Alhurine el Grande, 90 minuets away. Anyway, I am going for the 'with gas' and convert it so it runs both. , I will get some gas, probably CO2 only nicked from my local cafe.

I have bought , well, paid for, one of these, I know it's a scam of some sort but as I am protected by both PayPal and eBay I thought ,"what the hell". What you think, I know Lincoln is a good make but this model sells at $340 at best- It says, "posted", so wait 4 to 6 weeks and see, I have been surprised in the past when such things have turned up.

Work, of all sorts is on hold with most people, guess we are supposed to worry about the cost of it when it's all over.

They have extended the 'lock down' until 12th April, (at least) how the hell we are supposed to pay all the bills in the meantime I have no idea. luckily I have my pensions and a separate income but otherwise I would be in dire straights by now and it's only been one and a half weeks.

Everything is here now for the car repair, I am going to try and get to the workshop, hopefully I will not be stopped and sent home, (with a fine). Got to get stuff done, in isolation, of course.
