And a constant pain in the butt to SWMBO.
I have decided to make a recessed frame for the monitor from some alloy section, so it will be below a flush glass screen, should help with relections from the windscreen too, Lumiweld it all together and then polish it.

Managed to get a bit more done, driving it just the little time I did before I was warned off by the local fuzz for having a UK car in Spain,(so back in the shed)
Head lining.



and finaly managed to fit the centre consul steady brackets



and started on the seats, again

Just to let you what’s been going on over here, out and about not a lot, but on the SS front steady progress, if you can call one step forward and two back making any kind of progress.
Never satisfied with anything on the car for more than a few months I’m at it again with a new dash moulding,


Squeezing a bit more out of the brakes and repairing and tidying up the ravages of the years, even having only done a few hundred miles in the past year or two, (problems with the transfer to Spanish and the police getting tougher on foreign cars driven illegally over here for ages), it still seems to require touching up, oiling and cleaning (dust everywhere).

Still not happy with the door catches and the basic bear claw ones I have just don’t seem very safe so looking for the “right” tailgate catch, double latched and locking. I really don’t want to go back to VW Golf front and back I had ten years ago, too heavy, lots of linkages and rods and it doesn’t look very neat with the two catch bolts sticking out, not even on a DeLoren.

I have splashed out and bought a pair of Westfield seats with red piping as on Ebay as I was fed up sewing the covers and they were not looking too professional.

Center consul is being change (again) due to a nice win on Ebay with the Pioneer and computer coming out, (can't stand her voice anyway) and a 7" double DIN Radio, rear-view, DVD, bluetooth, GPS etc etc going in and the switches moving up to just under the screen so a whole new fascia for that. Still not sure about the fill for the center, whether to stay with the ribbed 'retro' look or black leather or go carbon fiber, thoughts anyone?


Doing a bit of tuning on the carbs but I can't run it too long as 'er in doors' starts bitching about the garage smelling like a - garage. It does sound sweet though and all the gadgets work too including the blue back light LEDS in the engine bay. Got a 14" string of blue LEDs as a gift. not sure where to use them yet, Footwells maybe?
Had to relocate the finnished mould for the dash to the work place so not to cause a domestic with the smell, should have the dash top done soon but bloody work keeps getting in the way.

Update June 2010
Seats arrived today, bit smaller than I imagined, but that's the problem with imagination. Nice snug fit but well made. Nice touch would have been to have the mounting holes already cut instead of having to dig about to find the bosses. Runners I bought in 2006 fitted perfectly and with a 25mm spacer under the front should make it about the right angle combined with the sloping floor but I will have to wait until next week to find out as I ride a Suzuki Burgman and the wife has the car and is working. Seat belt holes are a bit low for anyone over 5'4" and would need to be floor mounted and not at shoulder hight as I have at the moment or the belts would have to come down to the slots and then back up to my shoulders and that's a no no.

As far as filling in is concerned I think whatever floats your boat. For me personally I think carbon fibre is like crushed velvet and will become dated. While looking to current trends for ideas I think that there are somethings that are relatively timeless.

I think your car looks phenomenal, Peter. I'm not a fan of carbon fiber either, but some neat effects can be made by painting parts of it and letting some show through. I like the red/black interior... maybe keep it with the theme and stay with a red ribbed trim.

I thank you for you input, sometimes it takes someone else to step back and say, "It's a crap idea", How about a continuous black plastic (see though at speedo only) panel from dash as now but continue down to gear shift and picked up again back to arm rest with just the switches moved up and the stainless door buttons and at the top the 7" radio/DVD/bluetooth/reverse/TV/ etc etc. ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... So you think that would be too much black and stick with the ribbed 'retro' alloy, I think I agree. Like the all RED seat covers I WAS making, too much RED! in ya face, Difficult to get the balance right and then there are the door panels which I'll start on as soon as I get the dash in so I can get the 'flow' from end of dash into panels right.
