Get yourself to GSF or VW heritage and get that clutch, Mick.

You can't go to Stones without your Nova!

Your comment about asbestos made me chuckle I must admit

Didja drop the engine without taking the rear valance off Mick? But then I guess your exhaust isn't poking through it like mine..... I'm sure you'll get it all back together in time though.
It's a 52 year old car and everything works, just not always at the same time.......and it's probably about to get jealous!

Sure did - and almost single handed - took less than 1 hour. Just got Sue to help by pushing the car forwards whilst I steadied the engine on the jack. Not looking forward with trying to get it back on though.

    Now Mick,

you know that changing every thing lastminute.com is my domain. I'll let you off this time as the clutch plate could be deemed as service item. Listen, while you've go tthe donk out why don't you change your rear lights or stick in a V6??

Good luck and they are just as easy to get in as they are to get out. Just take the time the align the clutch plate befoe you tighten the clutch. A plastic clutch aligning tool is worth the few pounds they cost. I got one with the KEP adapter plate kit and the engine slid on a peach.

See you, AND the Nova at Stones..

    Best of luck Mick

    - brings back memories, that happened to me as soon as Nena was on the road.

VW Heritage definately stock all sizes and do free delivery for web orders, or GSF should have them.

I bought the flywheel locking tool and plastic alignment tool at the same time, for a few quid each and did my first clutch inside an afternoon.

Just work slow and steady, and cleanly !

Best of luck, and see you at Stoneleigh,
    All the best,

All done and back on the road

GSF in Reading had a clutch kit in stock (£62) so I nipped in there at lunchtime on Monday and fitted it Monday after work. Only difficulty was getting the exhaust back on - not as easy as getting it off, so I didn't complete the job until last night. Took it for a quick blast up the A30 and it's a great improvement. The old clutch felt like it was a knitted wooly thing compared to the sharp response from the new one. Just need some more BHP and it's off to 'The Pod' to lay some rubber
