Didn't I read somewhere that Chevy Novas sold badly in Mexico where "nova" (at least the pronounciation) means "doesn't go" in Spanish?
Um, I read that too, then someone pointed me towards Snopes:

Shame, it was a good story

Thanks Nigel, that was very interesting reading. So the Nova name wasn't changed for the Spanish market, and the reportedly poor sales in Latin markets was false, but the literal translation does appear to be "no go", which is probably no more than a good joke, as the report suggests!

Fix Or Repair Daily (FORD) I have heard of before
Fix It Again, Tony (FIAT) I hadn't - very good

Then there's always the old standby - Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious (LOTUS), a comment which, for reasons unrelated to Colin Chapman, is familar to Jon

...Getting back to (something close to) the point, cars which place their functionality over their form will always be ugly. We see so many truncated hatchbacks that we assume they must be good looking (whereas at best they look distinctive, nothing more). Then we kid ourselves that the mishmash of curves in say a Hyundai coupe or older Toyota Celica must be good looking, but all they have are curves instead of straight lines and are disproportionate.

Any car with a pleasing form is likely to be cramped inside (convertibles don't usually have a form), suffer from poor visibility and are likely to be difficult to drive. That's why manufacturers don't make them for sale and is also the reason why there are so few Nova's on the road

1F2R is OK for going in a straight line, as countless speed record cars have proven. There again, Thrust SSC was a tadpole, but with the two rear wheels in tandem and staggered (I've no idea what that would be... 2F2R(T)???)

    I'm rambling again...
