I am going to need to replace the fuel pump I have fitted on the VW 1600 engine, but my query is that the pump is a mechanical pump, and I am guessing there is an arm from the pump that goes in to the engine and on this arm is a rod which rests on a cam on the distributor drive shaft which pumps the rod up and down in time with the engine movement to mechanically drive the pump.
So, how does this come out?
Or is the arm left in the engine and the pump removed from that? I could well be talking complete nonsense by this time
The pump is leaking from near the top, looks like it could be a gasket, is that possible? Can you even get the gaskets to repair the pumps? With not having much experience with VW engines, especially air cooled ones of this age, its making things a little more difficult than they should be.
