I wasn't sure whether the subject/title should be 'I've been a bit of a Tool' because it was my stupidity that prompted me to post something here.
Followers of the 'MicksRedNova' thread will know that I have just been fabricating a stainless replacement for my exhaust using my 150 Amp Mig welder . Well, after tacking it and re-doing it a few times, I finally had it pretty correct so went ahead and welded it up. It was too late to fire it up that night so I waited 'till next day and went out first thing in my slippers to try it. It had a slight hole which was blowing where I hadn't welded all round the pipe so I whipped it off and put it on the bench to fill the gap. Kitted out in full protective gear - safety specs, weld helmet, hat, overalls and leather gloves the lump of white-hot molten stainless steel decided that my sock and slipper were an ideal target and I now have four round burn holes in my left foot to show for it OUCH, OUCH.
So the moral of this story is:
Irrespective of how urgent or exciting the use of your tool appears, don't forget to get FULLY protected before you start.

PS I think my Impact Driver is my favourite tool.
