Fuel tank breather- vented cap maybe

My tank (pre 67, fill under the bonnet style) has had it's filler neck's breather pipe damaged. Cant get a good enough grip to put a fuel hole on it.

Can i block it off fully? and if it just needs venting, is there a vented cap that will fit a pre-67 tank. Or am i going to have to mod my current cap (think this is illegal thou)?

    Cheers Ben

I ditched the standard breather pipe becaus it didn't breath, mine is a side entry with the cap at the back of the wing. I use a hose straight from the tank to a seperate breather, have gone from 10 minutes to get £10 worth in to 15 seconds.
