Thread: Clutches & gearbox input shaft size?

Sounds very much like you've got a modified shaft, I have one on mine. The GB Engineering adaptor kits involved changing the shaft for one to suit the clutch of the donor engine. All you need to do is to replace the shaft with a Beetle shaft. Or as Peter says, fit a Pinto!

standard beetle gearbox not sure of model but my old logbook said 1200.

Don't know whether you can count the splines off this one or not.

That would be because it's beetle gearbox then.

Re: Clutches & gearbox input shaft size?

    Hi all.

Thanks Jimcub & yes it seems i have a modified input shaft which is a bit of a bugger.....

I already have a new Subaru adapter / flywheel kit made by Kennedy Engineered Products fitted to a Subaru J20 engine which has been clean up etc ready to attached to the gear box. So I think i'm too far down the road to now switch to a Ford engine.

So engine transplant is on hold until I find a VW input shaft or a different complete gearbox...................

    Cheers.

I might still have the old shaft I took out of mine, when I switched to Ford power. I'll have a look in the garage tomorrow!

    Hi all.

    Thanks for the offer JemP

Well after spending the past couple of weeks looking on the net & setting up a couple of alerts on flee bay for when a box is put on for sale or a beetle that somepne is breaking.

After all the looking I simply bumped into a mate who just so happened had one sitting in his shed about 200 yards from my house

It needs some cleaning up but we're off & running again

    Cheers.

Better that one than finding it AFTER you bought one, RESULT!
