I've got a matching belt from my biker days (that no longer goes round my waist) which you can have for free if you promise to keep that dash in your new project![]()

MicksRedNova2 may take as long as the original!!
Need to get some matching saddlebags to go with it. What was the previous owner/builder thinking???
Still, a little bit of TLC (and filler) and you should have a serviceable Mk1 dash again!
And some spare studs to put in your clothing, where they belong![]()

Will make a good impression on impact.

Despite this project being a 2013 project I am still faced with the age old kit car builders problem - space, or rather lack of it.
That meant this weekend had to have some focus on the Nova to strip it down further ready for storage.
The drive is a fibreglass kit car hospital at present!
Look away if you are squeamish!
Front undertray has seen better days, as have hinges ! The canopy though is very good.
Fun and games,
All the best,

Wow - those are seriously rusty hinges! I see you have a Smiths pump as well - is it serviceable?
Interesting to see the underside of the main body tub, with all the original panels in place. The original blurb says that the car consisted of 21 separate mouldings, and I couldn't get beyond 18 or so, but thanks to you I have spotted another one

Deja Vu - I remember a similar looking pile of rusty bits when I started stripping MicksRedNova down. My hinges looked very similar but I salvaged them as one of my first welding jobs on the car; they are still the ones in use.

Did you count the two bolt-on pieces that fix the body to the rear suspension-horns Lauren? And the engine surround is a seperate moulding that got bonded to the bodyshell......
It's a 52 year old car and everything works, just not always at the same time.......and it's probably about to get jealous!

Hi Alex - yes, the two reinforcing brackets were on the list
1. Bodyshell
2 & 3. Canopy inner and outer
4. Bonnet
5. Louvre panel
6 & 7. Side sills
8. Rear window tunnel
9. Rear light panel
10. Rear undertray
11. Nosecone
12. Dashboard
13 & 14. Left and right dashpods
15 & 16. Seats
18. Engine cover
19 & 20. Reinforcing brackets L&R
21. Inner rear wheelarch moulding (I think this covers the engine surround as well)
Hmm. So that is all 21 mouldings - but the one I was reminded of in Jim's photograph is the air plenum between the front bulkhead and the spare wheel compartment. It must be a separate moulding because the cavity is hollow.
Ah - the 21 mouldings tally comes from the original '72 Hot Car article, when only one dashpod was being offered. So all mouldings are now accounted for! Thanks guys!

This is all very geeky.
