    Re: EMPI rear disk Conversion

Don't think that Ces ever posts on here (may stand to be corrected!) Mick (micksrednova) or Elaine (superbbird) should be able to put you in touch.....
It's a 52 year old car and everything works, just not always at the same time.......and it's probably about to get jealous!

Jim, I've been called OCD before (probably true to a moderate degree) but what's with all those plastic nut covers on your axle tubes?!

Did you put them on every nut on the entire car?

Silly things fall off pretty easily. I covered my seat bolt nuts with them on the underside of the floorpan but already lost 3 and I haven't even driven it yet! I think it happened getting it on and off the trailer when it went/came back from the Rusper Alfa garage.

    Cyco,
Yep that looks like the one

These are the pics I have been sending off to all disc suppliers I can find. May have a result with NITRAC, the rep is in the US at the moment, was kind enough to reply to my email from his business trip there & when back in cold wet UK will check their full catalog of avaliable bells

I have also got a query in with Hispec, conviniently located in Dartford (10 miles from home) No responce yet, chatter on other forums suggsts they are very slow to repond, but their web site suggests they will have a "Standard" bell that can be machined to suit. It is the PCD that is causing the most difficulties. The hub is already machined to its minimum dimension for diameter.

If I get a chance I'll remove the disc agin on Saturday & take some pictures of the hub & caliper mount, even if it is just for general interest..

Thanks for all the input & pictures, I'll keep you all up dated as I progress with my dillema.

No G, not every one! Due to the grade needed for these bolts I didn't use stainless, but instead used OEM steel bolts. Any non stainless bolts were protected with plastic caps, and I didn't lose any!

    Giles.
I totally understand. The rear brake conversion was already done when I bought the car, and I intend to do a complete hub swap with a more common 5 stud pattern. So I've never bothered converting to studs.

    Re: EMPI rear disk Conversion

I have just about given up trying to find a UK supplier/manufacturer that is capable of helping. Hispec have come the closest by offering to machine one from a solid billet for £200 each plus VAT. That makes the ones from Australia viable again. Having had an email conversation with John Sherman from OZ, the original kit supplier, he has suggested that I have the discs machined on the vehicle as it appears in the picture that there is enough thickness left in the discs. The high spot is becomming more pronounced over the last few trips to work (100 mile round trip) The constant squeek, silence, squeek, silence, especially at low speeds is embarasing I have found a mobile on car disc machiner but he is in Cambridge. There is however a localish sports & clasics garage that do it, they just need to see the car first. They specialise in Porche & Ferrari.

Any how, here are a few pics of my set up as I dismantled it again tonight for another think for a solution.

Man, that looks very similar! Not much surprise there as the same guy did the conversion. lol Let me know if I can help out, though I'm on the Central Coast an hours north of Sydney. Not up near Brisbane, QLD. lol

    Thanks Cyco,
My old man lives in Grafton, so if I need the discs from John Sherman I'll send him on a mission.
