You can get a 55Amp bolt on unit with built in reg, fits std bracket and just two wires, Battery via starter and warning light (12v when running).

Peter must be on the sangria again as his post is not helpful to you, however neither will I be as I have no idea about bug stuff but someone will read your post and understand your question and will know the answer I have no doubt.

    Re: alternator

99% of alternator these days have built in regs and are very reliable, if failure should happen the reg is about 20 quid and an easy swap, just fits in the back cover. The one I helpfully linked to is the same as the one I use.
    p.s I don't drink, diabetic.
Been using alloy covers for 17 years and providing the seals and O rings are good, no leaks.

    Re: alternator

My built-in regulator packed up a few years back, got a new one from Retrodubs for about £14, easy (couple of screws) fit and away you go.
It's a 52 year old car and everything works, just not always at the same time.......and it's probably about to get jealous!
