It was good to talk to you David - it's always nice to chat with others that share our passion for this car.

I do hope you find a suitable car - there's bound to be one comes up for sale at some point in time, you just have to be patient. No doubt 2 or 3 will turn up all at once just like buses..

some things just not meant to be ... I live in hope.

    cheers

One will definitely come up, but you need to be realistic on the price you will need to pay. Project cars are generally cheapish, but finished car prices have definitely started to rise to reflect the rarity of actually having a finished car for sale.....because as we all know they are few and far between.

I blame Ray who now has three of them. Maybe you can convince him to part with one of them.

I'm sure something will come up eventually. Although a rare occurance , an 'unknown' one sometimes pops up that surprises the community on the forum how many are still about, under a dust sheet in someone's garage.

    So
Write your list on individual strips of masking tape and stick them on the screen.
When you complete one, take it off the screen.
You end up wanting to take the tape off the screen which will speed up the finish .....

    Simples .....

Been a while since I posted about my car but I'm slowly making progress.

Finished installing the steering column a while back. Ended up sticking with the standard column assembly (for simiplicitys sake and to avoid having to do any welding on the column). I had to cut a hole in the front bulkhead though to allow the steering box to rotate around far enough to avoid putting strain on the flexible coupling).

(Front compartment view showing roof pump temporary wiring arrangement and hole to allow the steering box to rotate without fouling the bodywork

Also wired up a temporary roof operating system so that I can now open and close the roof using a remote control rather than touching wire manually off a battery. This has allowed me for the first time to sit inside the car and experience the thrill of closing the roof while I was inside.

Took some videos which you can see here:-

    Good work Phill.
I notice you have a 'sticky ram' on your drivers side like I did, which makes one side go up and down faster than the other, but at least you can sit in and make vroom, vroom noises now

After testing the system for a while now (okay playing with it really) I have discovered some issues.

The first as Mick said is the roof rises unevenly though catches up again and levels out so I can probably live with that.

The bigger issue though is the pump does not maintain a negative pressure on the canopy when closed. You can wind it down and hear the pump straining. Once closed, after a few seconds the negative pressure eases off until the canopy is simply resting on the tub instead of being clamped down by the hydraulics.

I suspected a faulty seal in one of the pumps outlet ports was allowing the fluid to escape back into the pump releasing the pressure. In an attempt to test this out I swapped outlet ports so that up became down and vice versa. If my thinking was correct, I expected the canopy to sink back down again once opened, but should now maintain a negative canopy pressure when closed.

However, to my surprise the canopy only operated in one direction with each press of the button causing the canopy to lift each time and no action to close at all. At first I thought I had disturbed the changeover relay in some way causing it to only work in one constant direction but this was definately not the case. When I switched the outlet ports back to how they had been the operation was as before - working in both direction but unable to maintain a canopy negative pressure.

I still think it must be a faulty seal in the pump - but this does not explain the pumps inability to close when the outlet ports were reversed?

Anyone have any idea what's going on?
