    Well
    After a long wait, my custom front coilover springs have arrived from Faulkner’s.
    Frustrating that they are not “ off the shelf” as it seriously affects the price, but cheaper than changing the shocks.

    So these are 14 in long, 125 Lb per inch;
    I would be interested to know how you get on with these, I am happy to wait until the lake has dried-up of course

    I needed the car to sit higher, but still use the same shock ( as they are expensive), so this is what I have done, and hope it works.
    I have placed a 30mm extender in between the shock top plate and the rod. This increases the overall length of the shock

    Now if I fitted the standard 12” spring they would now be too short.....

    Adding 14” springs fills the gap , and also allows some pre load to put pressure on the spring helping the car sit slightly higher
    I only hope my “idea” has worked, but time, and some dry days will tell

    Looking forward to seeing them in place Mark.

    I've swung back and forth re upgrading the suspension (or not), but finally decided to go for pretty much stock (other than adjustable front beam and adjustable rear spring plates) with a view to getting my Nova road legal, running her for a year or so to see how she feels, and then looking to upgrade where I think I'd get best bang for my buck.

    I've not driven the car since 1991 so my memories of just how primitive the VW set up is have faded somewhat!

    I must admit I can not either, was the shock fully extended when on the ground with the original springs, i guess probably not, so why not just fit 12 inch harder springs. Or am I missing something

    I am hoping my logic works.
    Basically the red9 shocks are too short for my set up. They are after all supplied for a beetle and not a nova. So I need a taller shock.
    100lb springs were too soft and the forum opinion was 150 would be too hard.
    So I needed a taller shock but use 125 springs to get some height and spring rating.
    They are now fitted and initial impressions are good, so I just need to get my snorkel and flippers on and test drive !

    Can you share photos of them installed?
