It's the standard spax coilover with the spacer
And it has worked a treat😀

Sorry didn't look at the photo properly the first time and see the spacer. Having inspected the photo again I see the spacer, but also see that these are the adjustable spax. Why didn't you just screw the bottom retainer up higher on the long threaded section, wouldn't this have achieved the same result?
I had already screwed them to the top yet they still did not give me enough clearance.
By making the spacer it has now put the adjuster to the bottom giving me in theory another 2" of adjustment .
The Red9 conversation was designed to give the beetle up to a 2 inch drop (cal look). So if you adjust the coil overs up by the bottom screw it only takes the front end back to near standard ride hight.
With mine adjust all the way down with the 2 inch drop my front under tray sits on the floor
You could go for a longer spring. But the spacers may well do the same trick.
Mostin.
“A plan is only a means of measuring where things went wrong”
A friend of mine is making the spacers for me. I have to trust his judgment for he is well known in the gt40 world for creating race cars.
Longer springs would only compress even more so not actually solving the problem.
Seats I have been informed should be turning up by the end of next week.
Getting close 👍
If you look above the spring on the picture you will first see the aluminium spacer, and on top of that is a black collar.
Normally you will only get the black collar which holds the top of the spring and also locates on the shock shaft.
What we have done, in theory, is made the collar a lot bigger, and pushed the spring further down the shock. By moving the spring down the adjuster collar is also lowered.
Hope that makes sense .
I should also add that spax don't make spacers( at least I cannot find them anywhere )
Hi Mark, Enjoying the build thread & pics; great work thus far.
I know you have the Red9 'torsion-less' front end, did you get your Spax coilovers from Red9?
What spring rates are available & what did you choose?
Presumably you can adjust the damping on the coilovers as well, can you soften it sufficienlty to take any harshness out of the front end?
Are you happy with the Red9? Would you recommend it?
Hi
Got red9 front and back, the same as mostin and mine is also swing arm.
Changed the supplied front spring to 100 as per all the previous comments when you research.
Easy to fit both front and rear however still not in a position to road test.
