I bought my engine off ebay 2 years ago and have since lost the receipt. However, upon reading the small print I find that when updating the V5C with a different engine I need to provide proof of purchase in the form of a receipt otherwise the application will be rejected. Given that I no longer have a receipt what am I to do?
With engine changes from my experience they are less worried about the proof of purchase and more worried about the proof of it being fitted to the chassis. When I first put my Alfa engine in the DLVA wanted a letter from a garage who fitted the engine stating that the engine was fitted to that chassis. My problem was that I fitted the engine not a garage. So the company that rebuilt my engine obliged, the guy who wrote my letter did a very simple hand written 2 sentence note on plain paper with the garage stamp on it and that seemed to suffice.

One option might be to get a local MOT garage to verify its fitted and write a letter for you for some beer money.

Agree with David here - less excited about receipts if self fitted. Also less of a concern if the change is like for like - i.e not changing capacity.

I sent a photo of the engine code on the lump when I did the last buggy swap. Also if you are historic there will be less interest as tax exempt anyway.
    All the best,

    Interesting.

On mine I changed engine number and colour both at the same time. I just sent the V5 off and it came back a couple of weeks later with the changes made. No questions asked.

I did keep the engine to the same cc though at 1700, and it was still an Alfa engine......

Yeah, but you probably signed off the letter with your work title , no one would mess with you then

When I changed the engine No, Capacity & colour on my V5 there were no questions asked and it came back within a couple of weeks.

Which reminds me I now have a different engine No, same make & capacity so I'll send it off again & see what happens.

    Cheers

Never mind Alistair- 'Yours is no disgrace' and you are a real 'Starship Trooper' for coping with the joys of kit-car ownership!!
