Anyone want to see a photo of Dirk's rear?!?

But before that, maybe those of a nervous disposition should look away now!!

    No going back.jpg

I spent the afternoon in the garage today and managed to weld in the passenger side drops, complete with Dirk's suggested sloping rear edge, which means that reversing off ramps, etc, shouldn't be too much of a problem. Apart from that, I think the 45' slope will look better than the traditional vertical edge when the car is viewed from the side.

(as always, file names explain what you're looking at)

    Thanks Dirk!

Well done. One more side to go then you can start putting it all back together again.

Looking very good and I think the slopes will help. Once I get the Avante back on its wheels I'm going to try and add a rear under tray from the floor drops backward to try and have the same effect.

Cheers guys, and Dirk, I think that adding a rear under tray from the floor drops backward would work fine .... and be a lot easier to fabricate than the 45' rear panel!

I've taken so long to get to this stage, but I'm optimistic about keeping the momentum going because I'm so looking forward to stripping the protective paint from the floorpans and giving it several coats of paint to make it all shiny ... it'll look so different from the rusty chassis I started with!

More updates to follow soon hopefully!

Another productive weekend in St Andrews. Whilst golf fans were trying to spot celebrities at the Dunhill Golf Competition, I was having much more fun in my garage!

First a quick reminder of where I started ....

    Offside front.jpg

2 coats of red oxide, followed by seam sealer on the welds ....

1 coat of smooth black Hammerite, which I plan to cover in Tetrosyl Stone Chip, but I'm so impressed with the gloss finish (which was applied with a paintbrush) I just dunno.... I think I'll do a sample of stone chip and see what it looks like next to the floor pans before I make a final decision.

You're making great progress Alistair. You won't regret dropping the floor pans and the end result has been well worth it. It won't take much time at all to re-fit all the running gear but I assume you will be refurbishing much of this too? Whats next on the list?
