Hmm I wondered if it was home-brew mod, perhaps not then ..?
Anyway I'm going to get a 'normal' full length backing plate attached, so the actuator is bolted onto solid metal.

Has anyone replaced the bushes in the hinge arms?
5 of minutes Googling brings up any number of companies offering a good variety of off-the-shelf and custom bushes.
Does anyone know the size? (Mk1 Elam)

According to Phill's book, the roof hinges use clutch pedal bushes from a Peugeot 305, I had a half-hearted look online for the bushes but no luck.

I'm thinking of taking some measurements and getting some replacement bushes 3D printed in Nylon (presumably that is that the best material?) perhaps printing them in 2 halves would make the hinges easier to assemble...

That will allow me to strip down and clean/repair the hinge metal, fit a full sized back plate, then chrome or powder coat.
    Any thoughts?

Afraid not, couldn't find a match, but had two sets of hinges that I combined to create one good (ish) set.

still on my long term list to get better hinges

I messaged the previous owner of my car, Ant (formerly of this Parish) a few weeks ago and obtained the phone number of the original builder, Robert (up in Scotland).

My car doesn't have a Nova Cars 'VIN plate' and I wanted to get the body number of the Car to use on a new plate. Interestingly Robert mentioned that the body wasn't supplied with a VIN plate, and looking at the body, there is no evidence of any rivet holes in the normal VIN mounting spot on the left of the front compartment.
So it looks like my car left the factory without a VIN, a pity because it's part of the provenance/history of the car.

Anyway, I have the original paperwork from Nova Cars, so I know it is an Elam Mk1, and the order date (1979).

I'm thinking about creating a replica of the Elam Mk1 plate (see picture borrowed from islandman),
Can I ask someone with a Mk1 Elam car to give me the measurements of this plate please?

    VIN plate

Had a play and nearest I can get is 2" x 4" (This would have been pre-metric)

    Single width line.
    Font, HP Simplified.
flat top on 'A', Oval 'O', Short leg on 'R' etc. 'C' is a bit open but that was 'shopped

14 bold for heading, 12 regular for text and 10 regular for phone. double spacing.

    Came out like this.

The opinions expressed in my posts may not be made in a sound mind and should be taken in the spirit intended, Jack Daniels is fine. Autism isn't something you get or can be 'cured of', it is the way we are wired, differently.
