I like this low-profile handbrake, which secures the 2 cables to the body of the handle, as opposed to
the stock handbrake which has the cables much higher.
Is this an after-market handle? Where can I get one?

Steve, That's mine, it was done by Flatlands for me. I wanted something that was going to be easy to trim and as you say not have the adjusters high up. They took a stock handbrake and modified it, this is what they come up with.
Hi Dave - Thanks.
Yes it's much neater than the OEM part.
If you get the chance can you take a picture from above so I can see the 2 'rings' and how they meet up with the handle, I will try to get something similar made.

This looks very neat David. I'd also be interested to see a photo from above, if you've got time during your stay.
Can't help but notice the slope of the rear face of your floor pan drops ... Dirk encouraged me to do the same (through a fear of being unable to 'slide' over an obstacle when reversing if the face was vertical) and I'm glad I built mine that way.
When Steve posted the photo of the handbrake my immediate reaction was 'that's a Flatlands!' ..... The quality of their work is instantly recognisable!
Cheers, Alistair
It is very similar to what is used on the Avante which is a Mini handbrake pre 76 later ones had a single cable the part number is FAM9060

Here you go

You just need a couple of L shape brackets and away you go.
Dirk
I went completely external to get a low profile.
Volvo V240 series handbrake, colt hand brake cables and a couple of 1m 8mm tubes. works well and able to move it back a LOT.

The opinions expressed in my posts may not be made in a sound mind and should be taken in the spirit intended, Jack Daniels is fine. Autism isn't something you get or can be 'cured of', it is the way we are wired, differently.

At one time I was entertaining this.

Please disregard the rust. Its been sitting outside for over a year.
It has a low profile.
It has a offset handle to clear the gear shift lever so it retains the stock leverage ratio for easy pull.
I did have to modify the mounts and I used rivet nuts to mount it on the tunnel.
No pictures of it mount. Those got deleted when the Sterling site shut down and I retained no back up pictures.
Thanks gents, I hadn't thought about going non-VW,
but some interesting ideas there...

The two rings are if I remember correctly just simple tube welded to the handbrake. I'm off to Switzerland tomorrow and just back before the show. So the only time I'll get to the other car is just after the show to put the blue one away. I'll try to remember to take some photos then.
