    Other Jobs

Now that the Avante is back on the road I have a few other jobs I want to do before stating on the Nova ( I think the wife has a lot more though)
One of the biggest things I dislike about a water cooled conversion is the water pipes for the rad and heating they tend to be a big mishmash of coupled up 90 deg pipes and hose connectors so I want a pipe bender, but they are expensive £400 for the machine and then £300 for each set of dies. So I am going to make one along these lines.

As much as I hate getting work done for me I decided to get the main parts laser cut as it would take me ages to do them on my mill. they are 15mm steel and only cost £120

I still need to source so 75mm x 6mm square section then I can crack on.

I didn't understand how the bits you got laser cut worked together until I watched the video in the weblink .... it's brilliant! .... have fun!

I get what Mark's saying, but at the same time you'll have another tool!

... and we'll all know where to come when we want pipes bent!!

When you sent the designs for your individual parts to the laser cutters, were they on a CAD file of some sort, a physical template or on the back of an envelope?
If it was CAD what did you use to create them?

They where AutoCad files DXF. I didn't create them though I bought the plans from Rorty the same people that do the chassis plans for a mid engine Beetle.

Are there no ends to your talents Dirk?

What diameter pipes will your machine be capable of bending? Will you be able to use it to make an exhaust system for example?

The bender will do 1/2 inch to 2.5 inch and yes would so exhausts, my lathe only has a 10 inch swing so the biggest die I will be able to make will be for 1.5 inch pipe.
