    All true, but as you say all marketing tools to encourage sales of otherwise unremarkable production saloon cars. I remember some years ago there was a Nova that had a very complicated multi-colour geometric paint job, beautifully executed (I expect Dave remembers it), but all it did was break up the shape of the car, like camouflage.

    I like your 2-tone approach, and I think even the striping works well, but I think any more contrasting panel colours would be too much.

    I didn't want to say it, but those Pantera paint schemes in the 1970s only served to impoverish that svelte Tom Tjaarda design... I think you made the right choice

    Yes I remember it, just searched my photo stash but unfortunately can't locate it

    Actually I like that ;-)

    I agree with the consensus that it doesn't work on NN's Nova though.

    Jimcub did the black bonnet thing with his orange car - when he had to put his spare orange bonnet on for some reason it looked soooo much better, but he switched them back later - bless him!

    (I think perhaps it doesn't work with the Nova bcause it mostly gives the impression of running a car with a panel in primer awaiting paint?)
    It's a 52 year old car and everything works, just not always at the same time.......and it's probably about to get jealous!

    Hi Mike - no, it was a more random graphic than that. Your picture us typical of paint schemes used on Sterlings in the US, although I am aware of at least one Nova from the late '70s with this scheme (Lotus twin-cam power)

    Hi Lauren that's a 70' s photo it was owned by Guy Curtis don't remember what engine he had in it think it was a large VW engine
