Yeah that’s my old one. Was tempted to buy it back, but a lot to do in it. It needs a respray, interior is shot and I believe the old 1600 engine was swapped for a 1200 when it blew up

The photos were sent to me last week. This is how it is now! The interior was immaculate when I sold it 11 years ago. It still even has the same tyres on from when I bought it, and it had been in storage in the 80’s. The current owner told me it needs complete interior and a respray. He told me he was looking for £5k, but I would have put it about £3k with all the work needed.

But prices have gone up- there aren't any classic cars that have stayed the same price over the last 10 years and if people are prepared to pay 20-80k for an Escort or 12k for a Morris Minor why should ours
be a few grand.
I used to be heavily into Esprits and you could get an S1 or S2 for 3k then someone realised that because there are so few a benchmark could be set at a high price and others would follow.
Now those cars are 30k +.
Countach used to be 30k then they stabilised at around 75. At the Historics Brooklands auction one that should have made that figure made over 300k for no real reason, 2 bidders got carried away. After that another trader thought his was worth that and 300k + became the norm.
I'm not comparing our cars to Lamborghini, but there are cars that now command high prices because they were so scarce people asked what they wanted then it became normal. Piper, Davrian & Matra Simca as examples. I think that any car of rarity must be worth more than 3k particularly with the looks the Nova has!

This Nova does look stunning in the old pictures. Very sad to see it now. Novas are not scarce though. That is the issue price wise. New Nova bodies are available, and restored Beetle chassis are available, so you need the connection to the past to leverage classic status and values, and not just be priced as a modified car. Old photos, old logbook, period parts in order to get more than just the price of the sum of the parts, that is scarce. A crappy Countach used to be 30k, my first house was £35k when Countach's were that money, and I only needed £5k deposit. A Countach was out of reach, the house not so. Zoopla has houses in that street starting from 250k today. £5k to £200k. 40x. Ironically a similar house could be sold today and a Diablo or two purchased for £100k each! Couldn't have even dreamt of that when buying the house. Clear the mortgage and buy a nice Lambo or two, bonkers! There must be literally millions of crappy houses like that in the UK, Countachs are not so common. There are surely more Purvis/Sterling Nova's left in the USA/UK/Australia than there ever were Countach's. A Morris Minor is a big job to restore, expensive chrome work, expensive interior that has to look right, not just high quality, lots of rotten metal to replace, expensive engine compared to a Beetle. £12K is well below cost and effort.

Shame to see such a nice Nova fall into disrepair ,
I Think the price is a bit steep for so much work but I do agree that a 2 door MK1 escort basket case going for £4/5k means that Novas should also be treated the same but classics have that Nostalgia attached to them because your dad or grandad had one etc....or you seen one as a boy etc.....Novas are rare but they just dont seem to have the same appeal as a old ford ,
