    It wasn't just that; the "solder" melted at a VERY low temperature and while that would be fine for low load items, I suspect the lower melting point of that solder could increase the chance of failure.
    With that in mind, if I had a wire break on my van, I would consider that as a viable short term patch, but would replace it with something much more robust as soon as humanly possible...

    Given the choice between that and normal solder and heat shrink? I'd go for the normal solder option since it would have a greater melting point and be more likely to survive.

    Didn't anyone read my post on these, I have been using them for over a year now, on my second box, and as has been said, ok for an emergency but I wouldn't trust one long term or heavy use. One problem had was , if a wire gets overloaded and gets hot the solder melts, not good.

    My apologizes for not being a more frequent participant here, but with regards to "said repairs" on a machine that deals with the "environment and/or vibration"...you will not find a better solution than the environment crimper/crimps spec. M22520/37-01 for common sized wire. Fact is, most coax/triax and shielded "center conductors"...and connector pins are almost always crimped. Solder in generally is left to boards and shielding in industry. Daniels, Raychem and Sargent make most of these and while the cost new is high for some, they can be purchased "not new" for as little as $50 US. Just saying....since it's more than good enough for planes, trains, automotive and most industrial/commercial applications. YMMV.

    Just had a wire break off one of the 'crimped' connectors on my washer pump on the BMW, now I have to buy a complete kit.
